Safety Guidelines

Whether you’re interested in hunting, plinking or target shooting, Crosman wants to encourage you not only to enjoy airgunning, but to be the safest and best shooter you can be, educating people interested in airgunning in a safe and responsible way.

GuidelineseProud Supporter of Project Childsafe

Make safety your most important priority when handling, transporting, storing, and shooting airguns. Make it a routine to follow all the rules of safe gun handling. Always be aware of the airgun, your surroundings, and those people around you.

A SPECIAL MESSAGE TO PARENTS: TRADITIONAL AIRGUNS THAT SHOOT LEAD PELLETS AND STEEL BBS ARE NOT TOYS. Personal injury or death can result from improper handling if a pellet or BB strikes someone in a vulnerable spot. We are concerned that all users learn to use AIRGUNS properly without injury to themselves or others. You may be able to obtain further information for instruction in shooting from one or more of the following groups: Boy Scouts of America, National Rifle Association, conservation clubs, gun clubs, 4-H Clubs, or hunter safety groups.

  • Adult supervision is ALWAYS required when any type of AIRGUN is in use.
  • ALWAYS know your state and local laws concerning the use of AIRGUNS.
  • ALWAYS treat the AIRGUN as though it is loaded and ready to fire.
  • ALWAYS treat AIRGUN with the same respect you would a firearm.
  • ALWAYS store the AIRGUN unloaded and away from children.
  • ALWAYS aim in a SAFE DIRECTION.
  • ALWAYS keep the muzzle of the AIRGUN pointed in a SAFE DIRECTION.
  • ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard until ready to shoot.
  • ALWAYS keep the AIRGUN “ON SAFE” until you are ready to shoot.
  • ALWAYS check to see if the AIRGUN is “ON SAFE” and unloaded when removing it from storage.
  • ALWAYS check to see if the AIRGUN is “ON SAFE” and unloaded when handing it to, or receiving it from another person.
  • ALWAYS have you and others wear shooting glasses to protect your eyes.
  • ALWAYS wear shooting glasses over eye glasses or prescription glasses.
  • ALWAYS place a shooting backstop in a location that will be safe should the backstop fail.
  • ALWAYS check your backstop for wear before and after each use. All backstops are subject to wear and will eventually fail. Replace your backstop if the surface is worn or damaged, or if a ricochet occurs.
  • ALWAYS use the proper size ammunition in your AIRGUN. Check the markings on your AIRGUN to verify the ammo size.
  • NEVER point the AIRGUN at any person or at anything you do not intend to shoot.
  • NEVER reuse ammunition.
  • NEVER shoot at hard surfaces or at the surface of water. The ammo may bounce off or ricochet and hit someone or something you had not intended to hit.
  • NEVER attempt to disassemble or tamper with your AIRGUN. Use an Authorized Service Station. Using an unauthorized service or repair center, or modifying the function of your AIRGUN in any way, may be unsafe and will void your warranty.
  • NEVER change the coloration and markings of an AIRGUN to make it look more like a firearm.
  • NEVER brandish or display an AIRGUN in public – Police officers and others may think it is a firearm.

Crosman is committed to safe shooting practices. Hunting with arrows/bolts requires caution at all times to avoid personal injury, death or property damage. Arrows/bolts should always be inspected before each use for signs of damage. Impact with hard objects, other arrows/bolts or being shot into a game animal can all cause damage.

  • NEVER use an arrow/bolt with any sign of damage. A cracked or split arrow/bolt can suffer catastrophic failure upon release and cause severe injury to yourself or others in the area.
  • ALWAYS practice safe shooting.
  • NEVER point your hunting tool at any person or property. An arrow/bolt can be accidentally discharged and cause death, personal injury or property damage.
  • NEVER shoot an arrow/bolt without having full visual contact with the target and knowing what is behind the target.

To err on the side of caution is always the best course of action. Crosman is committed to safe shooting. Use good judgment in determining whether or not something is unsafe, incorrect, or there is a possibility of harm.

INSPECT CARBON ARROWS/BOLTS FOR DAMAGE PRIOR TO EVERY SHOT

Impact with hard objects, other arrows/bolts or being shot into a game animal can all cause damage. Crosman recommends flexing each arrow/bolt and inspecting for any sign of cracks or splits before each use. Grasp the arrow firmly with both hands between the point and nock or bushing (on AIRBOW arrows only). Gently, twist, flex and squeeze the shaft and listen for cracking.

  • NEVER use an arrow/bolt with any sign of damage. A cracked or split arrow/bolt can suffer catastrophic failure upon release and cause severe injury to yourself or others in the area.
  • ALWAYS inspect your product, arrows/bolts and components prior to each use.

When hunting, the possibility of arrow/bolt damage increases significantly. This is due to the high likelihood of the arrow/bolt impacting various things (roots, trees, fences, posts, rocks, hard ground, bone, etc.), possible misuse (improper maintenance, abuse, or care), impact with other arrows/bolts, or the angle in which it impacts/passes through an animal. Damage to the arrow/bolt can result in sharp and/or splintered carbon fragments which are harmful to humans, especially if ingested. If there is ANY suspected carbon arrow/bolt damage please utilize the guidelines listed below:

  1. Thoroughly inspect the entrance wound, exit wound, and surrounding area prior to removing the carbon arrow/bolt in order to determine whether or not there are splinters/fragments imbedded in the game animal.
  2. Use extreme caution when removing the broken segments of the carbon arrow/bolt shaft.
  3. While field dressing game animals, use care to avoid splinters/fragments of carbon fiber.
  4. Carefully remove and dispose of any flesh that has the presence or suspected presence of carbon fiber splinters or fragments.

Airbow Safety

  • ALWAYS use arrows designed for use with the AIRBOW.
  • ALWAYS inspect your arrows regularly. NEVER use arrows with any sign of damage. A cracked or split arrow can suffer catastrophic failure upon release and cause severe injury to yourself or others in the area and damage your AIRBOW. Any nicked, dented, split, or splintered arrows should be discarded immediately.
  • ALWAYS have you and others wear shooting glasses to protect your eyes.
  • ALWAYS wear shooting glasses over eye glasses or prescription glasses.
  • ALWAYS keep your hands behind the shroud and away from the arrow rest.
  • ALWAYS keep your face and body parts away from the arrow’s broadhead or field tip.
  • ALWAYS keep your hands clear of the broadhead or field tip when loading an arrow.
  • NEVER shoot anything in the AIRBOW except for arrows designed specifically for the AIRBOW. Shooting other than recommended arrows could result in injury or damage to the AIRBOW.
  • NEVER attempt to disassemble or tamper with your AIRBOW. Use an Authorized Service Station. Using an unauthorized service or repair center, or modifying the function of your AIRBOW in any way, may be unsafe and will void your warranty.
  • Store this AIRBOW charged with air to keep the valves closed against dirt.

Safety Notices and Recalls

CROSMAN C21 / C31 AIR PISTOLS

June 2013

Crosman Corporation has discovered a potential safety problem with the Crosman C31 and C21 Air Pistols with serial numbers beginning with 12J, 12K, 12L, 12M, 13A 13B, or 13C.

We believe the plastic frame (body) of some of the air pistols may fracture, propelling pieces of plastic through the air, when the pistol is exposed to extreme heat (150 degrees Fahrenheit) with a live and pierced CO2 cartridge in the pistol. If that were to occur, there could be a risk of serious personal injury, particularly to the eye.

Therefore, if your Crosman C31 or C21 Air Pistol has a serial number beginning with 12J, 12K, 12L, 12M, 13A, 13B or 13C, please remove any CO2 cartridge from your pistol and stop using the pistol. Please complete the form below and submit it to begin the return process. You will have the opportunity to pick a replacement product, or, at your option, receive a refund. This exchange will be done at no charge to you.

Please note:
The serial number is located on the left hand side of the slide toward the muzzle of the air pistol.
